HoopsHype Michael Scotto reports that several teams around the league have called the Clippers to ask if they have any thoughts about waiving or moving forward with a trade for Covington after the clippers acquired Robert Covington and Norman Powell from Portland today. As previously reported, the Clippers acquired covington’s bird rights in a trade.Michael Scotto says acquiring Covington gives the Clippers insurance against the risk that Nicolas Batum will decline to exercise his player option to become a free agent after the season ends.Meanwhile, even if Batum chooses to stay next season, the Clippers would like to keep Covington and value his defense and locker room leadership. So far this season, Covington has appeared in 47 games with the Blazers, averaging 7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.53 steals and 1.3 blocks in 29.8 minutes per game.
